Synopsis

1939, and the Warsaw Zoo is flourishing under the stewardship and care of Dr. Jan Żabiński (Heldenbergh) and his wife Antonina (Chastain). But when Poland is invaded by the Nazis the zoo is destroyed and the Żabińskis are forced to report to the Reich's newly appointed chief zoologist. To fight back on their own terms, the Żabińskis covertly begin working with the Resistance and put into action plans to save Jews from what has become the Warsaw Ghetto, with Antonina putting herself and even her children at great risk. Based on the true story, this is the story of one woman who became a hero to hundreds during World War II.
