Bob Fear grew up in Ely, Cardiff, and his first “art memory” was at age nine, surprising his teacher so much with one of his drawings that she sent him to show the headmaster… After that he always knew he was good at art but wasn’t really sure what to do with it.
He went to art college in Cardiff, and loved being immersed in the subject and getting to try lots of different mediums, but again he struggled to have an outlet for his art, and eventually the need to make a living and support his family took over.
Thirty years after that, the last of his four children flew the nest and finally he had some time to himself. He tentatively started painting again and was delighted to find he could not only still do it, but that his art had matured, even without practice, in the same way that he’d matured as a person.
On a whim, he submitted a painting to The Tabernacle Art Competition at the MOMA Gallery in Machynlleth and was delighted – as well as astonished – when he won.
This has given Bob the confidence he needed, and he is now moving slowly towards being a professional artist and fulfilling his teenage dream.
Bob lives in rural Mid Wales and gets his inspiration from the landscapes and people around him. Working mainly in acrylic on board, Bob loves the trance he gets into when he paints and is delighted to share the outcome with people in galleries around Wales.
